One complaint about computers in the mid 1960s was that they never said anything interesting. I wrote the program say to remedy this. When invoked, it outputs a random remark, from a list that I have compiled reflecting my own interests.

I wrote the original program in 1965 in MAD for the MIT CTSS system. I re-implemented say in PL/I for Multics in the 1970s, in 1981 rewrote it in TAL for Tandem Guardian, and in the 1990s loaded the list of remarks into After Dark for the Macintosh. The current implementation is in Java.
